Effective crisis management requires mental preparedness

In crisis management, the focus is often on preventing IT failures, power outages, or other attacks on critical infrastructure. Of course, this is essential, but it is people who must handle the crisis situation. People who need to be able remain calm, maintain focus, and make sound decisions in a chaotic situation. This applies regardless of whether they are leaders, employees, or private citizens who suddenly find themselves in a pressured situation.

How we react to crisis and disaster situations varies. It is typically the unpredictable and the unexpected that affects us. The counterbalance to unpredictability is preparation.
